Swansea solar farm given the go ahead by planners

Plans for an 8,000 panel solar farm (installed capacity of 5mw) by Solar Power Parks Ltd in  Pontarddulais  has received recommending approval from Swansea council planners.

Planning officials will recommend approval for the large solar farm, planned by Solar Power Parks Ltd on land at Castell Ddu Farm, Pontarddulais at a meeting of the council’s planning committee next week.

A report to the committee by Swansea council planning officers said: “Solar Farms present an opportunity for the provision of renewable energy in the UK and are encouraged by the Government’s feed-in tariffs for schemes producing 5MW or more.

“There is wide scale commitment to expand the deployment of renewable energy to secure the future energy demand within the UK. Such schemes also provide investment, jobs and contribute to the UK’s drive towards carbon reduction.”
